Grape Seed extract, also known as oligomeric proanthocyanidin complex, a class of flavonoids with powerful antioxidant properties (1,2).* An integral part of the human diet, flavonoids are a group of compounds occurring naturally in fruit, vegetables, nuts, seeds, flowers and bark. OPC is an extensively studied compound exhibiting multiple benefits in human health.
CHOLESTEROL
One of the most significant benefits of grape seed extract is the ability to reduce risk factors of cardiovascular ailments. Many clinical studies in Europe have shown that grape seed extract can reduce total cholesterol, the bad LDL cholesterol and triglycerides while raising the good HDL cholesterol (3).* It is well known that "polyphenols" behave as free radical scavengers and antioxidants. It has been demonstrated that "polyphenols" can protect LDL cholesterol from oxidation, a process thought to be at the origin of many fatal heart attacks, indicating that grape seed extract may help reduce atherosclerosis or hardening of the arteries and reduce the risks of stroke (4).*
