MRM Cordyceps 750mg (Cordyceps sinensis) 60 VcapMRM Cordyceps 750mg is a blend of cordyceps sinensis and Hepialus armoricanus from the high elevation regions of China. This "Chinese Caterpillar" fungus has been used as an adaptogen (for ch'i) in traditional Chinese medicine for thousands of years. Its use in this country has been primarily confined to energy production dynamics with applications in athletic enhancement and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS*). Research has shown an increase in liver ATP:Pi (inorganic phosphate) ratio indicating more energy within the liver for metabolism. Other areas of benefit are increasing SOD (an overall antioxidant) activity, strengthening immune function, kidney function and improving glucose metabolism.*
The active components of this product are not well defined but current research indicates the nucleotides (adenosine), polysaccharides, cordycepin and amino acids are responsible for its therapeutic potential. This material is standardized to contain a minimum of 0.2% adenosine and 7% cordycepic acid. Research indicates cordyceps has a very low incidence of toxicity.
Contains the Highly Prized CS-4 Strain.*
Organic, Natural Energizer.*
Promotes Increased Strength & Endurance.
Supports Immune & Respiratory Health.

Cordyceps Mycelia (CS-4) (Cordyceps sinensis) - 750mg
CORDYCEPS SINENSIS
CORDYCEPS is the name given to an extract of the mycelial mushroom cordyceps sinensis cultivated in the high elevation regions of China. This compound, also known as “Chinese Caterpillar” fungus, is produced when a spore from the mushroom begins to culture after it lands on the back of a specific caterpillar (Lepidoptera) (1).* The spore proliferates by yeast-like budding when the caterpillar goes underground for the winter. During the summer months, the mushroom emerges above ground and is then harvested, washed, and dried.
For thousands of years, Cordyceps has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for fatigue, impotence, menopause, kidney ailments, respiratory infections, immune dysfunction and anemia (2).* Its use in this country has been primarily confined to energy production dynamics with applications in athletic enhancement and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS). Other areas of benefit are increased super oxide dismutase (SOD) and overall antioxidant activity, strengthened immune function, kidney function and glucose metabolism. The active components of this product are not well defined but current research indicates that the nucleotides (adenosine), polysaccharides, cordycepin and amino acids are cooperatively responsible for its therapeutic potential (1).* Most scientific research studies on cordyceps have been performed on animals. However, several human studies have shown its benefit for patients with kidney dysfunction and as an immunomodulatory agent.
IMMUNITY
Recent studies were performed to examine the effects of cordyceps sinensis on cell mediated immune responses. Kuo et al. reported that Cordyceps exhibits tumor cell growth inhibiting properties and antiviral activity by a direct immunoregulatory effect involving natural killer (NK) cell and tumor necrosis factor (TNF) production (1).* Both NK cells and TNF play essential roles in the inflammatory response and in anti-tumor function. Tang et al. reported that Cordyceps also demonstrated the ability to regulate immune function by improving phagocytosis and lymphocyte activity (3).* Phagocytosis is the process by which white blood cells dissolve and destroy bacteria, foreign particles or dead tissue.
ENERGY
In the early 1990’s Chinese athletes set world records in several track events by increasing endurance and performance in these athletes through Cordyceps supplementation. Additional studies have shown that when mice were supplemented with Cordyceps, there was a consistent increase in the ATP/inorganic phosphate ratio, which denotes a high-energy state (4).* ATP (adenosine triphosphate) and other phosphate bonds are the body’s major stores for energy. A similar Chinese animal study showed that supplementing with Cordyceps enhanced the body’s ability to endure oxygen shortage and improved cardiac function (5).*
MEDICAL IMPLICATIONS
A study at the Jinling Hospital in China revealed that Cordyceps has a protective effect in elderly patients with diabetic related kidney dysfunction while the treatment group developed less nephrotoxicity than the placebo group (6).* Patients with chronic renal failure have also shown enhanced kidney and improved immune function (7).* In diabetic mice Cordyceps was found to lower blood sugar, triglycerides and cholesterol (8).* Animal studies have also shown that Cordyceps may have considerable promise for the control of human lupus (9).* Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a serious autoimmune disease affecting numerous organ systems.
This material is standardized to contain a minimum of 2% adenosine and 7% cordycepic acid. Research indicates Cordyceps has a very low incidence of toxicity.
