Glucosamine Sulfate is an essential component of joints and intestinal tissue and is involved in the production of synovial fluid, which lubricates the joints. Sulfur is also utilized in the production of cartilage tissue.

A 6-month double-blind, multicenter trial has been recently performed to assess the efficacy of glucosamine sulfate 1500 mg once daily compared to placebo and acetaminophen in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee (GUIDE study). The results showed that glucosamine sulfate improved the Lequesne algofunctional index significantly compared to placebo and the positive control. Secondary analyses, including the OARSI responder indices, were also significantly favorable for glucosamine sulfate.

Chondroitin Sulfate stimulates the synthesis of hyaluronic acid which is the lubricant for joints as well as a major component of connective tissue in the skin.

The benefit of chondroitin sulfate in patients with osteoarthritis is likely the result of a number of effects including its anti-inflammatory activity, the stimulation of the synthesis of proteoglycans and hyaluronic acid, and the decrease in catabolic activity of chondrocytes inhibiting the synthesis of proteolytic enzymes, nitric oxide and other substances that contribute to damage cartilage matrix and cause death of articular chondrocytes.

Chondroitin sulfate has recently shown a positive effect on osteoarthritic structural changes occurred in the subchondral bone.

Vitamin C and Manganese are required for the synthesis of collagen and cartilage.

For best results, use with Biosil, containing the biologically active form of silicon.
