Inositol is the common name of myoinositol, the only form of inositol utilized by the body as a nutrient. Inositol is involved in the glucuronic acid and pentose phosphate pathways that are responsible for products such as glucose, glucuronolactone and water and is made in Japan by Tsuno Rice Co. The various forms of inositol (phosphatidylinositol and inositides such as IP3) are active in cell-to-cell communication, including the transmission of nerve impulses.* Tissues that are affected include the brain, liver and muscles (myo-inositol).* Inositol is an indirect source of glucose and glucoronic acid, which are essential to liver detoxification.*

A common biologically active form of inositol is phoshatidylinositol, a phosphatide found in cell membranes. Food sources of inositol are found in plants, as phytic acid, and meats.
