The first thing you need to ask yourself when evaluating protein formulas is this: What is the Biological Value (BV) of the protein source? This is an age old gauge used to determine how absorbable a protein is, and how effectively it can be used by the body today. Next, you need to make sure that your protein has significant amounts of branched chain amino acids (BCAAs): leucine, isoleucine, and valine. BCAAs are the building blocks of protein for your hardworking muscles! Many protein supplements meet the first two criteria. Most proteins metabolize into either negative waste catabolites (i.e. waste products) or into fat storage. The Science of Peptide-Bound Amino Acid (PBAA’s) and Hydrolysis!

NitroPro™ is not just a blend of multiple whey, milk, or other proteins like all its predecessors. Peptide- bound amino acids (PBAAs) are what set NitroPro™ apart from the competition! Amino acids are to proteins what Lego®’s are to children: building blocks. When studying research on burn victims patients, Hi-Tech researchers came to the conclusion that the intact proteins in the foods/protein powders we consume are not completely digested into their amino acid building blocks before being absorbed. In fact, the main product of digestion was discovered to be small peptides consisting of two or three amino acids, known di-and tripeptides. In Hi-Tech’s research it was confirmed that cells lining the intestinal wall contain transporters capable of absorbing these PBAAs. Once inside the intestinal cell, the peptides are hydrolyzed into free-form amino acids, which are then released into the bloodstream and carried to muscle tissue to help recovery and growth.

Protein is built of amino acids and amino acids contain nitrogen. In order for bodybuilders to build muscle mass, they must synthesize more protein and they must retain more nitrogen. NitroPro™ works by increasing nitrogen retention by elevating protein absorption. Since digestion precedes absorption, the trick is to promote PBAA absorption. PBAAs are absorbed more quickly and increase nitrogen retention as much as 16 times compared to a mixture of free-form Amino Acids! In laymen’s terms, this means 16 times the potential gains!

Less is More When it Comes to PBAA Size.

The size of the PBAAs is extremely important. The research performed on NitroPro™ showed that PBAAs can be created by partial hydrolysis of milk and whey protein if they contain ample amounts of di-and tripeptides, in particular. This is where NitroPro™ outshines the competition: with a hydrolyzed protein containing an abundance of small PBAAs. Unfortunately, this is an extremely expensive process that only NitroPro™ has mastered.

Hydrolysis is a tricky manufacturing process. If you do not hydrolyze the protein molecules enough, you will not get enough PBAAs; that is, the smaller peptides needed for nitrogen retention. If you then over-hydrolyze, you will end up with a mixture with too many free-form amino acids, which are inferior for building muscle mass.

To gauge the degree at which protein has been hydrolyzed and its content of PBAAs, is the ratio of amino acid nitrogen (AN) to total nitrogen (TN). Most protein supplements on the market have an AN/TN ratio of less than 0.05; industry experts say that you need a multiple of this number to notice results. NitroPro™ has an AN/TN ratio of more than 0.30, which exceeds other products by as much as 500%. Manufacturing NitroPro™’s partial hydrolysates of whey and casein is a complex task requiring optimization of a number of different factors, including the blend of enzymes used during hydrolysis. Inside the manufacturing lab, intact whey and casein molecules are treated with a solution of water and an extract of porcine pancreatic enzymes obtained from USDA inspected facilities. The treatment is carried out under pH, time, and temperature controlled conditions in order to produce a partial hydrolysate. The hydrolysate is subsequently filtered, spray-dried, sifted, and tested. If the test results are positive, the other ingredients are added and are blended together in a state-of-the-art Mepaco double-ribbon/ auger style mixer (shown below to the right), which Hi-Tech feels is the most precise blender manufactured.
