Until recently, bone loss and osteoporosis were considered irreversible. Fortunately, new discoveries in bone research offer fresh hope to those suffering from these conditions. Clinical findings show that not only calcium, but a number of other minerals and nutrients can be helpful in reversing bone loss. Among these, naturally-occurring compounds called isoflavones (found in plants such as soy and red clover) have garnered special attention. Extensive research indicates that ipriflavone (7-isopropoxy- isoflavone), a unique derivative of the soy isoflavone daidzein, is more effective than any other isoflavone in stopping and even reversing bone loss.

1. Ipriflavone. Numerous current studies have shown that a combination of ipriflavone (600 mg/day) and calcium (usually 1000 mg/day) can actually stop bone loss and enhance bone formation. 1 The powerfully effective combination of calcium and ipriflavone can decrease fracture rates in women with existing bone loss, as well as in those with a variety of pre-existing risk factors.1 Ipriflavone appears to naturally promote bone growth by increasing bone mass and strength – a distinct advantage over estrogen replacement, bisphosphonates (Fosamax), and selective estrogen receptor modulators (Raloxifene), which only inhibit bone loss.1,2 Ipriflavone lacks direct estrogenic effects, even though it seems to influence bones in a way similar to estrogen.2 Some research even suggests that ipriflavone, when combined with small amounts of certain estrogens, may augment estrogen’s desirable effects while minimizing its risks.2,3 And, unlike the prescription medicines mentioned above, virtually all ipriflavone studies have pointed to its safety and almost total lack of side effects.1,3 Overall, ipriflavone is recognized as an extrememly safe and beneficial supplement for helping to halt and reverse bone loss.

2. Calcium - One Step Beyond! Calcium citrate malate is one of the few forms of calcium shown to increase bone density.1,6,7 While many products that combine calcium with ipriflavone use only calcium carbonate (a more compact but less absorbable form), 80% of the calcium in PIONEER Ipriflavone Calcium/Magnesium comes from citrate malate and four fully-reacted Krebs intermediates.

3. Magnesium. This critical mineral helps regulate calcium transport and utilization, and has been shown to increase bone density in older persons who are magnesium-deficient.9-12 PIONEER Ipriflavone Calcium/Magnesium uses fully-reacted chelates of aspartate and malate, plus oxide and ionic magnesium from sea water.

4. Bone Minerals: Boron & Silica. Boron assists the efficient metabolism and utilization of calcium, magnesium, vitamin D and phosphorus.12 Silica influences the rate of collagen formation, and has been shown to improve bone mineral density of the hip.13
